Looking for Footprints

LogoI would be naive to think that other congregations in America or even individuals like our next-door neighbors are not being held back from actually being the Church by something as simple as a building. While mortgage payments, capital campaigns, custodial duties, and even well-structured programs are not bad in and of themselves, these things can tie us down if God’s footprints have not gone ahead of us.

But here’s something we all need to remember (especially me as I can get pretty passionate about my house-church experience): God’s footprints will not lead everyone down the same path. However, God’s desire for us all to be active members of His Body remains the same.

After all, the Holy Spirit is not through with us—any of us—yet.

And maybe, like The Well, God is moving in your midst, leading you to shed a building and get naked with us. Is it radical? Yes. Can I give you all the answers about what it means for you? No.

But is discovering what it means to be the living, breathing Church worth the risk? Without a doubt.

So, like Lazarus, do you hear God calling you to, “Come forth!”? Is it time to strip down to the bare essentials and see your local body resurrected to become church all over again? Is God leading you to become a part of the naked church?

If so, share with us your story! Where are God’s footprints leading you?

And, be sure to “tune in” with us over the next few weeks as we look at some of the misconceptions people often have about house churches.
